Alexzandria Wolliston is the grateful mother of five children under the age of four. She lives in West Palm Beach, Florida. This is her God Shot.
My whole life I’ve always wanted to be a mother of boys. I have no idea why, but something inside me always longed to be a boy mom. When my daughter, Ar’Mani was born, I was instantly in love, and my desire to have boys no longer occupied my mind. I had my beautiful girl!
When Ar’Mani was a year and half, I became ill at work and was sent home. That last time I had thrown up like that, I was pregnant. I took a home pregnancy test, even though I already knew what the result was going to be. I was excited to be a mom for the second time and wondered if maybe this arrival would be a boy?
It turned out that I wouldn’t be having a boy. I would be having two. Identical twins, as a matter of fact. I got the surprising news in June of 2018 and Mark and Malakhi were born the following March. It was considered a high risk pregnancy, but both boys were born perfectly healthy. Ar’mani was two years old by then, and the best mother’s helper that I could ask for.
Life was busy, but good, and slowly started returning to normal. I was back at work when the totally unexpected happened. I threw up and was sent home. Again. This time I wasn’t ready to believe that I could possibly be pregnant. My doctor, however, was quick to confirm it. He told me that I had a better chance of winning the lottery. I didn’t follow at first, but he clarified. I was once again expecting twin boys. This time they would be fraternal. Their date of conception was Mother’s Day.
My pregnancy with my second set of twins went smoothly and on December 27, 2019, Kaylen and Kayleb were born. My doctor reiterated to me the rarity of back to back twins, while reminding me to play the lottery. He also gave my babies some advice. “Tell mommy to stop making all these twins!”
In less than one year, my dream of becoming the mother of boys had come true. I was grateful and certain that this had been God’s plan. I just didn’t realize the entirety of the plan, nor the meaning behind it until later.
After my first set of twins were born, my mother shared something that I had never known. She told me that her mother, my grandmother, had given birth to twin boys who had died shortly after being born. Both sides of my family were part of a generation that didn’t talk about certain things that were considered private family matters. I was hearing about this terrible loss only after becoming a twin mother myself. But, the revelations didn’t end there. When my second set of twins were born, my auntie, on my father’s side, rocked my world once more. Her mother, my other grandmother, also gave birth to twin boys that died.
Other than me and my two grandmothers, not one person on either side of my family has had twins. This is not a coincidence to me. These boys are gifts. They are gifts from my grandmothers. God sent me my daughter first, because He knew I would need a loving, sweet and patient helper. God Shots come in many different ways. Mine came straight from heaven.
And baby makes… 4 boys in under a year! Alexandria holding Mark and Malakhi. While Kaylen and Kayleb chill in their car seats.
Mark and Malakhi as newborns and celebrating big sister, Ar’Mani’s birthday.
